Thematizer

How your text compares to other text types is presented in the three graphs of this tab. The first compares the frequency of the themes in your text to average frequencies of five other text types: Wikipedia articles, native English speakers' university essays, online blog articles, lyrics and non-native essays. The second compares the frequency of thematic progression patterns in your text to the average frequencies of the same five text types. The third graph compares the frequency of means of progression in your text to the average frequencies of the other five text types.

Note that certain text types may use certain theme types or thematic progression patterns more often than others. If you want your text to follow the conventions of a text type more closely, you can (re-)write your text using the prominent theme types and thematic progression patterns. Alternatively, you can consciously ignore these conventions, which will make your text stand apart from other texts of the same type. This may affect how well your text is received by the readership, however.

Ultimately, there is no single best option, but you can use this information to see whether your text adheres to or deviates from a given text type's average.
